Another mountain shot from Banff-

A little bit of a funny story with this pic...I was traveling very light on this trip...one camera, one lens...no tripod, no shutter release, no beanbag...I really wasn't expecting to take any night shots, but when I saw this, I couldn't resist.

This was taken just off a small dead end access road (almost no traffic) with a few parking spots to pull off and admire the scenery. Unfortunately, none offer a view in this direction, so I had to basically just park on the side of the road. And, not having a tripod or beanbag, I had to find something to prop the camera on...I'm not even going to go over the list of items that I tried, but I finally settled on a spare shoe from my suitcase---It actually held the camera pretty well... To make matters worse, I couldn't find anywhere to put the camera that would give me a view close to this... I ended up having to back the car up a little and put the camera (in its shoe) on the roof of the car---again, it actually worked pretty well. It was a tad embarrassing, but only two cars drove by...

Unfortunately, the shoe isn't sturdy enough to hold the camera while I press the shutter release, so I have to resort to the 10 second timer. That really drug things out....and it wasn't exactly what you'd call warm.

I don't think I'll travel quite as light next time...

Not a lot of post on this shot--it's an HDR merge of two shots, trying to bring the moon back in a little, but it didn't really work...cropped a bit off the bottom, and a high pass filter blended to bring out some detail in the mountains. The exposure is pretty close to how it came out of the camera.

I stumbled across this thread on dgrin a couple of days ago...and loved the shot- I wanted to get one for myself- Before tonights game, I thought I would practice---this was my 3rd attempt. I was pretty pumped- Thought by the end of the game I'd have an awesome shot...Unfortunately, I didn't get to take any shots during the game, so I don't have a better one...yet. My new self-imposed goal for the rest of the season...

Just me and the boys again today...thought we'd do some redecorating. The boys think there should be a larger-than-life-size picture of one of us on every wall we have...

The pic they're hanging was one Trev took of me last July (He's quite the artist)...We found it today...thought his entire memory card had been lost... And, if you look in the upper right, there's some more of Trev's artwork...

...OK, so we didn't really hang it (probably wouldn't have gotten away with it anyway)... The boys are standing in front of a blank wall... I created the collage effect using a free action from Panos FX... (use your favorite search engine that rhymes with oogle...)...and then merged it in between the boys and the wall...I had them hold blank sheets of paper to help them look more like they were really doing it...actors they're not, but it turned out ok... they like it. :)

Third day of Jill's birthday trip to NYC- I was left to fend for myself in Times Square for a little while while she shopped... So I took a few pictures of one of the most abundant things there... It was like a little mini drag race everytime the light turned green.

Almost Gone-

Back into the 60s today, but I wanted to get at least one snowscape posted--since we only get snow once every three or four years. And since the snow melted by about noon yesterday, I had very little time to shoot...this is about all I got- Maybe in 2012 I can do better...

This pic was taken about 9am, and the snow had already melted about halfway...by 11am, there was barely a trace left-

I think this shot should be called Layover Boredom. Two hour layover, not much to do-

-Composite of 6 50 sec exposures (3 Landings, 3 Take-Offs)
...two of the take-offs are almost off of the image...
-6 Layers, Blended with "Lightest Color" mode
...It amazed me how exact the landing paths were...
-Contrast increased
-Cropped

Now that the voting is over...my 'DSS #9 Dusk or Dawn' entry...(There were 9 pages of entries, but well worth a look--some awesome images!)

I was very honored to make it to the voting round, and congrats to Michael Atkins for his winning photo.

This was a "straight out of camera" challenge (no editing)...so this isn't the exact shot I entered---this one was slightly sharpened and I boosted the contrast by +10. My entry, the unedited version is here.
